Two councils, different rules
The most important thing about location on this coast has nothing to do with distance. It is which council governs your block.
Sunshine Coast Council covers the bulk of the region - Caloundra, Kawana, Mooloolaba, Maroochydore, Buderim, Nambour, Coolum and the Blackall Range. Noosa Shire Council covers Peregian Beach north through Noosaville, Noosa Heads, Sunrise Beach, Tewantin, Cooroy and Doonan, and its vegetation protection is tighter in both what is covered and how the applications are assessed.

Coastal strip
Salt, wind and sand. Blocks are smaller, access is tighter, and the wind loading on exposed frontages is the dominant factor in how trees fail here. Norfolk Island pines, tuckeroos, coastal banksias, pandanus and self-seeded cocos palms make up most of the work.

Blackall Range and hinterland
Steep basalt country, high rainfall, and trees on a completely different scale to the coast. Big old figs, hoop pines, flooded gums and rainforest remnants on slopes where the failure direction of a tree is determined as much by the ground as by the wind.

Which council covers my suburb?
Everything from Beerwah and Caloundra north to Coolum, Yandina and Eumundi, plus the Blackall Range, sits with Sunshine Coast Council. Peregian Beach, Noosaville, Noosa Heads, Tewantin, Sunrise Beach, Cooroy and Doonan sit with Noosa Shire Council, which applies its own and generally stricter vegetation controls.
Do you travel to the hinterland?
Yes. Maleny, Montville, Mapleton, Kenilworth, Conondale and the smaller Blackall Range localities are all covered. Steep access and very large trees mean these jobs are usually quoted for a full day rather than a half.
Is there a call-out fee for outlying areas?
Quotes are free everywhere in the coverage area. On the far edges - Kenilworth, Conondale, Bribie - scheduling is usually grouped with other work in the same area, so lead times can be a few days longer than they are on the coastal strip.
